Home and Art Studio for George, Spencer, Cole and Linda
George and his mother Linda are building their own home a few blocks from the main town square in Huntsville, Texas. Dan Phillips, the renowned artistic home builder and wizard of Phoenix Commotion is going to be our builder mentor and will guide us throughout the building process.
We plan on building most of this ourselves, hopefully with the help of volunteers and others along the way, using mostly recycled materials.

We purchased and closed on the lot in February 2010 and George began working on the design of the house. He completed all the necessary drawings and submitted them to the city for permit approval in April. After it was approved, we've been working on clearing the lot of all the brush and weeds, also, unfortunately, having to cut down three large trees, one of which was diseased.
In May we received our first shipment of wood, which was delivered directly to the lot/(now) job site, for the foundation. We marked off and leveled where all the piers will be placed and George has been busy this month digging the deep holes where the cement will be poured and blocks placed for the piers.
It is our plan to build and move into the house as soon as we can, leaving some details such as the floor and wall coverings for after move-in.
